Victorian Shell Cameo Brooch
Woman Gazing at Ducks on Lake
This lovely brooch is an authentic piece of antique estate jewelry dating from the Victorian Era. When you adorn yourself with something so lovely you are not only wearing a piece of jewelry that a Victorian lady once wore, you are also displaying a small handcrafted work of art. This is a variation of the Victorian cameo "Rebecca by the Well" theme that was popular at the time. This term is used to describe scenes with a woman, small building and tree.
This piece is beautifully hand carved. A lady is standing in front of a well, gazing out out onto a lake or stream where ducks can be seen. It's a very lovely and serene image as she gazes into the distance.The back has a working clasp. There are no visible cracks in the shell as shown when held to the light. The gold-filled frame has bits of tarnish like many pieces from the 1800's- I'm leaving any polishing to the new owner. Measures approximately 1.5" x 2".
